KISTERS launches HyQuant Edge.
A compact sensor-sized hydrological radar station.
23 April 2026
The first radar sensor-based monitoring station for quantitative hydrology. A new category in water monitoring.

KISTERS has launched HyQuant Edge – the first radar sensor-based monitoring station for hydrology, powered by KIPTEC. It integrates sensing, logging, edge processing, telemetry, and cloud connectivity into one compact unit. Connect power, and it handles its data independently. More sites. Less infrastructure.
If you work in hydrological monitoring, you know the setup. Every new site means more hardware, more wiring, more cost. Sensors, data loggers, telemetry, power systems – all sourced separately, integrated on site, and maintained indefinitely. Expand your network and you expand the problem. Infrastructure requirements limit where you can monitor. Complexity limits how fast you can move.
HyQuant Edge changes that, not by tweaking what already exists, but by rethinking it from the ground up.
This is not a sensor upgrade. It is a new category in quantitative hydrology. Everything your traditional hydrological station does, plus edge intelligence, packed into one compact unit, made possible by KIPTEC, KISTERS’ Intelligence Platform for Embedded Connectivity. One device. Add power. Live data in minutes.
HyQuant Edge at a glance
- Four versions: Level (L), Surface Velocity (V), Combined Level and Velocity (L+V), Discharge (Q)
- Automatic cloud connectivity
- Smart event-based logging built in
- Intelligent power optimisation
- Onboard data storage
- Store-and-forward — no data loss during connectivity outages
- Self-learning rain filters for accurate velocity data
- Radar-on-chip design for constrained installations
- Upgrade from Level or Velocity to full Discharge with just a software update
“Across our work with monitoring teams globally, we saw the same pattern repeated: systems were becoming more complex, not more capable. The monitoring networks that water management requires have always been larger than the ones infrastructure constraints have made possible. HyQuant Edge is set to change that equation.” – Dr. Anton Felder, Global Director HydroMet, KISTERS
Built for the field. Managed from anywhere.
Manufactured in Germany, HyQuant Edge supports LTE-Cat-M1/NB-IoT and integrates with your existing platforms via MQTTS, HTTPS, and SFTP; so you can expand your network without changing your established systems or workflows.
Security is embedded by design, with encryption and mutual TLS with unique certificates compliant with European IT security standards. No external security infrastructure required. Remote configuration, real-time data visualisation, and over-the-air firmware updates are available from the moment your HyQuant Edge starts transmitting — full control, without leaving the office.
Start with what you need. Scale when you’re ready.
HyQuant Edge does not fix your capability at the point of purchase. Start with Level or Surface Velocity and upgrade to full Discharge calculation using the same hardware: just a software update. Your initial investment is preserved as your monitoring needs grow.
The radar brand you already trust.
HyQuant is the water radar solution specified by hydrology agencies, basin authorities, and monitoring teams around the globe. HyQuant Edge is the newest member of that range, carrying the same proven measurement performance across Level, Velocity, Combined, and Discharge, now in a station as compact as a sensor. Same reliability. Entirely new possibilities.
“HyQuant Edge is the first KIPTEC-enabled sensor in our portfolio — and it will not be the last. Classic HyQuant sensors remain the right choice wherever integration with existing data acquisition infrastructure is the priority. The goal has always been to expand choice” – Edgar Wetzel, Global Head of Product Management, KISTERS
Where HyQuant Edge delivers the most value
Whether you are building out a remote network with limited infrastructure, responding to an emergency that demands immediate deployment, densifying your existing network without multiplying costs, instrumenting an urban channel where space is constrained, or establishing a permanent site where reliability and low maintenance are critical. HyQuant Edge gives you a monitoring station that is ready when and where you need it.
HyQuant Edge launches on June 2026 with a public launch event. Details coming soon. Follow us on LinkedIn to be the first to know.
