KISTERS, a global leader in innovative software solutions for water management, announces its collaboration with the University of Duisburg-Essen and Harzwasserwerke, in which all three parties will work together to revolutionise the operation of Germany’s water supply systems.

Led by the University of Duisburg-Essen and co-funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), the project called PROWAVE (Proactive Operation of Water Supply Systems) aims to harness the power of predictive analytics and artificial intelligence to optimise reservoir control and ensure efficient and sustainable water resource management. By integrating the latest AI technologies developed by the University of Duisburg-Essen with KISTERS’ expertise in operational data management, they aim to create proactive tools for reservoir operators to anticipate and respond to dynamic water supply and demand scenarios.

“Our partnership with the University of Duisburg-Essen and Harzwasserwerke demonstrates our unwavering commitment to proactively predict water supply patterns and intelligently control reservoirs,” said Klaus Kisters, CEO of KISTERS. “This project exemplifies our dedication to sustainable solutions that address the pressing needs of our changing environment. We look forward to the profound impact that PROWAVE will have in reshaping water management practices”

As part of this collaboration, KISTERS will provide its expertise in software development and integration and work closely with researchers from the University of Duisburg-Essen and the operational teams at Harzwasserwerke to co-create solutions tailored to the evolving needs of water management.

“Our goal is to develop innovative solutions that empower reservoir operators with real-time insights, enabling them to make informed decisions that enhance water security and resilience,” says Dirk Schwanenberg, Director of HydroMet Software Solutions at KISTERS. “Through collaboration and innovation, we are committed to driving positive change and fostering a sustainable future for generations to come.”

The escalating effects of climate change, from floods to droughts, require proactive measures in water management. By joining forces with the University of Duisburg-Essen, Harzwasserwerke and KISTERS, this Tri-Force Alliance will be well placed to advance water management strategies through the culmination and collaboration of years of expertise, knowledge and water management.
