The WISKI Map module (WMM) offers a map presentation with GIS functionalities, to alleviate the overview of the spatial distribution of the station network. It is based on the product line of ESRI. Functionality is oriented on well known standard GIS products like Arc View.
The site specific master data of the gauging stations, which are managed within WISKI, forms the database for the WMM. All gauging stations could be found on the map. Station locations are represented by free scalable signatures, in order to distinguish easily between different station types within the map. A configuration management allows to save several different map representations.
Moreover, any desired additional information (themes) can be loaded into the map. At any time this themes (e.g. watercourses, catchments' boundaries, etc) can be adjoin to or cleared from the map, can be treated in a cartographic manner and can be switched between different layers. The actual map design will be saved at the end of a WMM session and automatically loaded at the beginning of a new WMM session.
Additional cartographic means are available (zoom functions, moving within the whole map view, centre and highlight at a selected station with a fixed scale, different labelling of the stations according to the master data, a reticule, scale bar, etc).
Stations may be selected directly (per mouse click), through a selection window or by means of the WISKI filter tools (specific query of the master data). The selection of individual stations is marked through special signatures. Furthermore, not selected stations could be faded out.
Within the WMM cartographic view there is a direct link to other WISKI modules (such as: the master data management, the rating curve editor, graphics, etc.) in order to query information about a selected station or start a new operation. Vice versa the WMM may be called from this WISKI modules. If there are one or more stations selected, they will by centred and highlighted in the map.
