Apart from the SCADA functions and "user components", the functions offered by ControlStar also include numerous system functions, e.g. persistent self-monitoring with which possible faults are detected early on, before they can cause malfunctions.
General system functions include:
Online diagnosis and remote diagnosis
Data protection functions for system software, data model and archives
Protection measures for redundancy configuration
The monitoring functions not only cover hardware components, but also software modules (transactions, parameters), communication routes and telecontrol equipment.
For example, the failure of a telecontrol line in a process connection system with a redundant design is compensated by the mirror-image assembly in the other telecontrol module without the entire telecontrol module having to execute a change in the master function. This procedure means a considerable increase in the overall availability of a control system, because this means that any double faults, which may occur in the system, are tolerated without switching the dual computers.
Depending on the individual requirements, ControlStar systems can be configured with graded redundancy, beginning with the doubling of certain, particularly critical sections of the network right up to control systems with a fully redundant design.
