Alessandro Volta. The discovery of batteries. The phenomenon of electricity was known even in the ancient world. Physicists had been experimenting with electricity long before Alessandro Volta, with the aim of understanding and mastering it. However, the successful construction of a steady electrical power source had to wait until the Italian succeeded in 1799 / 1800. A pasteboard disk soaked in brine was inserted between plates, each made from a different type of metal (copper and zinc). Volta, with his “voltaic” pile, discovered the precursor to the battery and opened the path for research into electricity as well as the manufacture of many base elements using electrolysis. |
Powerful and cost-effective.KISTERS developed a control technology consisting of the network control system ControlStar and the process monitoring system LineStar. ControlStar’s application ranges from management of high- and medium-voltage systems in utilities for electricity, gas, water and district heating networks to traffic control systems, industry and environmental technology. LineStar includes process interfaces, communication and engineering functions.
KISTERS ControlStar, based on the Linux operating system, combines technical understanding, proven IT capability and scalability to produce a system offering high operating reliability and security. These are essential as, for example, it is both an expensive and risky business to continuously monitor and manage electricity network operation. ControlStar provides operational reliability due to its consistently high standards in software development, hardware components and communication. It also has its own runtime system which makes it possible to set up a redundant system with maximum availability while distributing the software modules to diverse hardware components. This gives ControlStar high portability. |
