The system's 3-tier architecture differentiates between the data base server, the web/application server and the clients (i.e. the users’ work stations), on which a standard browser is being used.
WEB
All application components, including the administration module, are implemented as a web application. Every user can use ZMGS to the full extent using their web browser, as long as they have corresponding authorisation. Modifications are made globally; the client browser always provides the up-to-date system. This eliminates costly updates and possibly hundreds of clients at different locations.
User administration
The web-based user administration is the central element of the ZMGS. The administrator assigns each new user to a specific user group which has special access rights. This ensures that, e.g., cargo brokers cannot access the registration data of a competitor.
Availability
Sea shipping takes place 24 hours per day for 365 days of the year. Accidents can happen at any time. For this reason, high demands are made on the availability of the ZMGS.
The ZMGS by KISTERS guarantees ready availability and high reliability. For this reason the ZMGS was designed as a redundant system. If a component fails, substitute systems fill in until the defective component is replaced. This way, for example, different data base servers that alternatively replicate their data inventory can be integrated into the ZMGS. In the case of server failure, an automated switching mechanism ensures that the application is integrated with the substitute system.
The application servers themselves are also continuously monitored. If a system is unavailable, services automatically switch to a fail-server, and the user can immediately continue his/her activities. An additional alarm module ensures that those in charge can be informed with any type of communication method – e.g. SMS per cellular phone – and are thus in a position to react immediately.
Especially in this case, the application also profits from the numerous synergies with KISTER's ControlStar control system.
